Adolescent Therapy

As a teenager, navigating the world around you and the emotions that come with it can be challenging. Adolescent therapy is a tailored psychotherapy approach that aims to understand the unique needs of teenagers and use evidence-based techniques to help them with their struggles, self-confidence and mental health concerns.

Why do adolescents need therapy?

Adolescence is a vulnerable time in a child's life where they undergo several changes in their bodies while learning to navigate school and grow into their own person.

Psychotherapy can help assist teens in understanding the changes they're going through and address any concerns they may have, such as:

  • Mental health disorders: Teens may develop depression, anxiety or stress that can impact their daily activities and overall well-being.
  • Trauma: Adolescents who have experienced traumatic events will benefit from therapy to help them process their experiences and develop coping skills.
  • Behavioural issues: Teens may engage in behaviours such as substance abuse or self-harm that can negatively impact their health and well-being.
  • Relationship issues: Teenagers may experience difficulties in relationships with friends, family or partners.
  • Life transitions: Divorce, moving or changing schools are examples of significant life changes that can impact a teenager's overall well-being.

What to expect from adolescent therapy

Candice will work with you and your teen to understand their needs and goals before determining which modalities and techniques will be best suited. During the first session, it's normal for the parent or guardian to sit in for a collaborative discussion about your teen's history, well-being and concerns.

From here, the sessions will be between Candice and your teenager to ensure they feel comfortable and safe. Together, they will explore your teen's thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Candice's role will be to facilitate feedback, guidance and support as they work to overcome their challenges and gain self-confidence.

We understand that decision to go through psychotherapy can be difficult for adolescents and their families, but we provide compassionate and effective care for young clients in a non-judgmental environment.

Candice strives to create a safe and supportive environment where teenagers can explore their thoughts and feelings in an empowering and transformative way. Book your consultation today.
